Striving For Healthy Eating

Hello everyone! Choosing between eating salad versus a burger with fries can be tough, but I’ve found some tips that help me to chose the healthier options and stick to them.
  1. Instead of sweets, buy fruit! Fruit is nature’s candy, it is so healthy and way better for you than processed sweets. Good fruits to eat are apples, bananas, berries, etc. Have a good variety available at home so you don’t get sick of just one fruit!
  2. Buy nuts and seeds. Nuts and seeds have healthy fats in them and can be a good source of protein. Try not to eat them as a meal but instead of a snack because having too many nuts gives you an unhealthy portion of fats. In fact, for fruit, vegetables, and nuts, portion control is necessary!
  3. Stay away from packaged foods. Try to eat fresh foods so you are not eating foods that have tons of preservatives in it.
  4. Find the “healthy” aisle in the grocery store and find foods you enjoy. It is okay to grab a bar when you are busy, but buy bars that are healthy and not full of chemicals. A good example of a health bar is RXBAR. A not-as-healthy bar is Cliff bars. They may be full of protein but they have a lot of preservatives.
  5. Find ways to incorporate vegetables into your meals. Try to stay away from frying your vegetables but cooking or eating them raw is extremely healthy.
  6. Incorporate fiber into your diet. Fiber is found in chia seeds, banana, broccoli, apples, etc. Fiber helps regulate the body’s use of sugars and helps keep hunger and blood sugar in check.
  7. Make juices! Fruit juices at the store are full of sugar and calories. Make your own with no added sugars! Juicer machines at Walmart aren’t expensive and you can make your own juice! (Click here to view one)
Remember, once you start eating healthy the cravings for the unhealthy food will soon go away. It might take patience and time but it is worth it!
What are some of your healthy go-to snacks? What does your grocery list look like?
