Foods That Help With Digestion

Hello everyone! Today I am sharing foods that improve digestion. If you feel like you are constantly bloating, cramping, having gas, etc, try these foods!

1. Yogurt
Yogurt contains friendly bacteria, probiotics, that are good for your gut. The bacteria in the yogurt will help break down foods in your digestive tract and improve your gut health. Try buying plain Greek yogurt and adding berries, honey, and nuts for a nutritious breakfast!
2. Apples
Apples are rich in pectin, a soluble fiber. Fiber helps your food flow through your digestive tract and helps to prevent constipation. Eating an apple with almond butter is filling and delicious.
3. Chia seeds
Chia seeds are an excellent source of fiber. When consumed, they form a gelatin-like substance in your stomach. They are similar to a prebiotic, they support the growth of healthy bacteria in your gut. Try slicing a banana into small pieces, drizzling almond butter over it, then sprinkle chia seeds. Chia seeds can also be added to salads, yogurt, veggies, fruit, etc. Be sure to drink lots of water.
4. Ginger
Ginger helps improve digestion and prevent nausea. Ginger helps to move food from your stomach to your small intestine quicker; therefore, ginger reduces your risk of heartburn, nausea, and stomach discomfort. I typically drink ginger shots (small size of pure ginger juice) or caffeine-free ginger tea. If you have a juicer, try juicing ginger, celery, apples, and oranges to make a healthy juice.
5. Dark Green Vegetables
Vegetables such as broccoli, spinach, kale, etc contain lots of fiber and magnesium which helps relieve constipation and clean out your system. Try baking veggies in olive oil with your favorite spices or add spinach to your smoothies. HOWEVER, some raw vegetables are very hard for our body to digest. For example, broccoli and cauliflower. I recommend baking these veggies so they won't make you bloat.
6. Avocado
Avocado is packed with fiber and nutrients such as potassium, which helps promote healthy digestive function. Try avocado toast, adding avocado to your smoothies, or eating it with lime juice.
