How to Break Your Soda Craving

One of the popular sayings, when someone is wanting weight loss tips, is that you shouldn't drink your calories. This means that you need to try to reduce the high-calorie drinks in your diet. Soda is a common drink in the United States; however, it is full of calories and sugar. Here are some tips and tricks on how to break your soda craving! Of course, drinking a soda every once in a while won't hurt you, but on normal days try these hacks!

1. Order water with fruit at restaurants
Rather than ordering a soda, try ordering water with a type of fruit to flavor it! Try lemons, limes, strawberries, mint, basil, etc!

2. Try sparkling water with no added sugar.
My favorite type is Spindrift, they contain no added sugar, natural flavors, or artificial flavors! Each can only has 9 calories. This is what I get at Starbucks since I am not a huge fan of coffee! Other popular brands are La Croix and Bubbly.

3. Do NOT get diet soda
It may appear that diet soda is healthier; however, many diet sodas use aspartame, an artificial sweetener, in their drinks which has been shown in studies to make people more tempted to eat more sugary foods!

4. Make drinking soda a rare occasion
Treat soda like alcohol, you shouldn't consume it all the time but on special occasions it is okay!

5. Look at the ingredients in soda
You will be surprised at what kind of ingredients are in those drinks! This may help you realize that soda should only be an occasional drink.

DO NOT switch to a diet soda. Diet sodas contain artificial sweeteners and will make you crave more food and sweeter drinks. The calories may be lower, but you will consume more food and soda after you drink a diet soda.

One thing that I've realized is that instead of removing every "unhealthy" food or drink from your life, just introduce more healthy foods and drinks into your diet! Introduce new fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, etc!

Hope these tips help!
Love,
Gabby
