How to Stay Healthy While Traveling

My husband and I tent camped all across Colorado for 11 days, we had an amazing experience and saw some incredible views! We both like to live a healthy lifestyle but also enjoy foods such as Braum's frozen yogurt (trust me, it's so good), pizza, ice cream, etc. On our trip, we were able to eat healthy but also try foods such as New York Style pizza, gelato, popsicles, pasta, etc. Here are some things that we did to stay healthy AND fuel our bodies for long hikes while also trying new foods and restaurants!

  1. Make sure you are eating enough protein!

Whether it was high protein pancakes, eggs, beef, protein bars, or high protein bagels, we made sure we had protein at each meal. Protein helps keep you full which can help prevent you from overeating. For snacks we would munch on protein bars that we got from the grocery store.

  1. If you don't have access to veggies, make sure to eat a lot of fruit!

It is important to eat fruits and vegetables to get enough fiber in. On our trip, we used canned vegetables, Gala apples, bananas, fruit strips, and applesauce. Apples, fruit strips, and applesauce were also great snacks for our hikes and did not go bad quickly! We also found an orchard and picked our own peaches and blackberries, it was so much fun and a great way to eat fruit!

  1. Stay physically active on vacation

On our trip, we hiked over 45 miles. This did not include walking that we did around towns while we explored! Another fun way to explore a town is to bike.

  1. Be present and enjoy yourself!

I didn't put any pressure on myself to eat super healthy. I was on an incredible trip with my love and wanted to be present and enjoy our time together! I wanted to make sure that we were eating properly to fuel ourselves for our long trips as well as try delicious food.

  1. Stay hydrated!!

It is so important to stay hydrated, especially if you are doing a lot of physical activity! If you are drinking, it is also important to drink lots of water since alcohol dehydrates the body. To help us recover from our hikes, we got Gatorade Zero packets that had electrolytes in them. They also tasted great which helped us drink more water!

What are some of your hacks for staying healthy while traveling?

Love,
Gabby
